He took up the role as narrator of the Railway Series audiobooks after Morris and Rushton retired from the series. He narrated Edward the Blue Engine through Tramway Engines from 1979 to 1984. Willie Rushton became the narrator for the Railway Stories after Johnny Morris left.

He was the first narrator to read the Railway Series stories other than The Three Railway Engines. Johnny Morris narrated The Three Railway Engines through Percy the Small Engine, records released by Delyse Records from 1961 to 1966. He later married model Jennifer Khalastchi. He had an older brother, Paul Angelis, and was married to Helen Worth, an actor in the long-running soap Coronation Street, from 1991 until 2001. Angelis appeared in many British television programmes, such as The Liver Birds, Reilly: Ace of Spies, Minder, Sweet Medicine, A & E, Merseybeat, A Touch of Frost, Boys from the Blackstuff, Midsomer Murders, The Bill, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, I Woke Up One Morning, George and Mildred, Z Cars and Good Cop.
